Azimio la Umoja Coalition has condemned the abduction and arrests of its members. In a statement on Wednesday, Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua on behalf of Azimio termed the actions as illegal and aimed at paralysing the protests. "We condemn in the strongest terms possible the arrests of Azimio leaders and close a**ociates of leaders without any colour of right or lightest justification," she said. She stated that Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino was arrested by police on Tuesday night and is currently being held incommunicado, with his whereabouts remaining unknown. "Today Ken Chonga, MP Kilifi South, and Hon. Teddy Mwambire, Speaker Kilifi County have been arrested and detained in an unknown place," Karua added. Nairobi MCAs Wilfred Odallo (Mabatini), Redson Onyango (Ngei ), Erick Otieno and Anthony Otsulawho who are budget officers at the Nairobi County a**embly have also been arrested. Raila Odinga's bodyguard Maurice Ogeta is said to be abducted by police on his way to work. Dennis Onyango (Raila's Spokesman) was arrested from his house where a search without warrant was conducted. Karua called out the government for the arrests arguing it is a desperate attempt to sabotage the maandamano. As a result, the Raila-led coalition has demanded the immediate release of those detained noting that their detention is not only malicious but also unlawful. Karua argued that if the arrests were legal, the police would have taken them to the nearest courts and charged them immediately. Azimio also listed in Mathare, Kibra, Embakasi.Kamukunii,Mombasa, Kilifi, Kisii and Kisumu as areas where excessive force by police is being. "Their continued unlawful detention which the Ruto regime has sanctioned, together with the excessive force being used is in flagrant violation of our constitution and laws," Karua said. In addition to that, the Opposition has also urged the government to respect the Kenyan constitution and laws. They reminded the police that each officer will account individually for unlawful acts “Our Lawyers have instructions to proceed with the necessary legal action,” Karua added. www.the-star.co.ke ![]()
